A brilliantly creative campaign
Here's one of those marketing campaigns that's stuck with me for its creativity + simplicity.
In the Summer of 2021 I had the joy of visiting Weymouth beach and I was obsessed by their... bins.
Colourful images of some happy Grandmas, with the titles:
"Be a sweetie, pick up your wrapper"
and "Nan says: Thanks for keeping Weymouth lovely"
Here’s five reasons why it works:
✅ Feeling watched makes you think twice
✅ Fear of disapproval can be greater than fear of punishment
✅ Fear of disapproval from family can be the greatest of them all
✅ Literally makes you think 'what would Nan think?'
✅ If you weren't going to litter, you're thanked by a bunch of happy Nans. How lovely!
I just looked this up, and kudos for the 40 bins these covered goes to Behaviour Change, along with Mars Wrigley, Keep Britain Tidy, Litter Free Dorset and Dorset Council UK. Great job. 👍
...And you know what? I didn't see any litter.
